News From the Field
A kind note from our good friend Lisa.
AHF Friend and longtime supporter Lisa Cavallari recently returned from Mustang and sent this wonderful note. Thanks Lisa!
I have just returned from the Mustang region of Nepal. While there, I did indeed have the opportunity to visit and tour the Ghemi day care facility. The work that is continuing there is extremely impressive and I was very thankful to have the opportunity to witness first hand the work of the AHF in action in Ghemi. It is one thing to be an ardent supporter of the AHF over the years and wonder about the achievements in these difficult to reach regions of the world. It is quite another to be able to see this first hand.
With that thought in mind, I would also like to mention that my group did also have the opportunity to meet the infectious (and fellow Italian), Mr. Luigi Fieni in Lo Manthang. Our small group had the pleasure of visiting many of Luigi's (and AHF's) strong accomplishments including Thubchen, Ghar, and Thupten Shedrep Dargeyling. Words are not accurate enough to convey how thorough and amazing this work is.
However, it is the ongoing work at Jampa Lhakhang that completely overwhelmed me. This structure of three unique floors is unlike anything I have ever seen. The unbelievable dedication and support of so many individual artisans looked as though a small army had been assembled to conquer a very complex challenge in restoration. Hearing first hand about the tremendous work that needed to be undertaken to attempt this, it is no wonder that this important work has stretched on for years. Preserving these pivotal religious shrines translates into their active use once restoration is completed. The results last for generations. From what I gather there is still some work to be done at Jampa Lho Khang and while that must be balanced with other requests for aid I do hope this valuable work is able to be totally completed. As a first hand witness to this I felt strongly enough to voice that humble opinion and also congratulate whole heartedly the AHF on its fine work in this area. What a privilege to see it.
Warm Regards,
Lisa
