Kashi and Chandrawati
Kashi and Chandrawati work in the vaccination department of the Friends of Shanta Bhawan Clinic weighing and registering babies (not a bad job!). They came to work at the clinic over a decade ago, thanks to Dr. Banskota who leads the Hospital and Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children, AHF's longtime partner. Both Kashi and Chandrawati had suffered from severe burns in childhood that left them disabled but Dr. Banskota and his team changed their lives with surgery and prosthetics.
Clinic Director Luke Sunde has a lasting relationship with Dr. Banskota, referring children to the hospital for surgery and hiring former patients when they are able to work. In a society that still struggles to accept people with disabilities, Kashi and Chandrawati can do good work and support their families—and what an example they set for the young patients they see everyday!
FSB provides high quality medical care for the poorest Tibetans and Nepalis at an extremely low cost—only $0.89 per patient!
