Hyangjia Tibetan Settlement

Chokyi Tsomo was born in 1922.  She spent her youthful age in a very beautiful moment of joy.  In the year 1959, Chinese invaded Tibet, and her family along with the relatives escaped from Tibet.  Her beautiful moment of joy come to an end, her belongings remained at her homeland Tibet, and only a few possessions was she able to carry along with her.  Her husband Tamding Wangdak and she faced hardship escaping from Tibet with their kids.  On the way of escaping from Chinese forces, she took birth of son.  Finally, her family safely reached to Mustang (Tibet-Nepal border).  They stayed a few years in Mustang area with the hope of returning back to homeland Tibet but later their hope failed and they settled in the Hyangjia Tibetan Settlement in Pokhara, Nepal in the year 1963.

In changes of weather condition, improper sanitary and lack of proper nutrition, most of the Tibetan peoples weaken their energy.  These threats of course lead to health problems and many resulted in death too.  In the year of 1985, she was caught by tuberculosis and after long year of viruses, finally in the year 1991, she was cured.

Chokyi Tsomo’s family consists of seven members along with her husband.  She assists her husband during the daytime, and in evening she circumambulates the monastery.   Now both of them live happily with the grace of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and dearly care by their family.

Forty Tibetan elders live at the Hyangjia Tibetan Settlement in Pokhara, Nepal.  For seven years, AHF has supported them with funds for food and medicine.  Over 60 children also stay in the school hostel at Hyangjia.  AHF buys their school uniforms, shoes, and books and supports their medical care.

Preserving Tibetan culture and offering comfort to Tibetans in exile is one of AHF’s top priorities.
