Privacy Policy

OUR COMMITMENT TO PRIVACY

The American Himalayan Foundation (“AHF”) is committed to respecting the privacy of its financial and in-kind donors, whether the donation is made online at (http://www.himalayan-foundation.org/) (the “AHF Website”), by mail, or any other method. When you make a financial or in-kind donation, you provide your name and contact information. Financial donors provide standard payment information including, in many circumstances, credit card data. We protect your information in a variety of ways, as described below.

We use industry standard safeguards to protect your information. Many donors use credit cards for donations. We protect the security of credit card transactions using a number of measures such as encryption, access controls, network firewalls, and physical security. These measures are designed to make it extremely difficult for anyone to intercept the credit card information you provide to us. When we work with other companies to process credit card transactions, those companies also use encryption and other appropriate security measures.

We will not sell, share or trade our donors’ personally identifiable information with any other organization. In addition, we will not send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations. AHF has third-party vendors that assist with processing and managing donations and donor data. We give these vendors access to donor data. Our vendors are bound by strict confidentiality rules and are permitted to use donor data only to support AHF operations.

The Data We May Collect

Site Visitors. AHF may collect information from your computer or mobile device as you navigate the AHF Website through the use of commonly used website information-gathering tools, such as cookies and web beacons (“Web Collection Information”). The Web Collection Information includes information from your web browser (such as browser type and browser language), your Internet Protocol address (“IP Address”), and the actions you take on the AHF Website (such as the web pages viewed and the links clicked).

Personal Information. The American Himalayan Foundation (“AHF”) may collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you make a donation online via our website or offline by phone, mail or any other method.  AHF may also collect your personal information if you sign up for our email list. This may include your name, email, mailing address, phone number, or credit card information for limited purposes.

Cookies. AHF uses cookies to make your interactions with the AHF Website easy and helpful. When you visit the AHF Website, AHF’s servers send a cookie to your device. Client-side tracking objects (commonly called cookies or JavaScript files) are small text files located in your browser directory that may be placed on your device. Each cookie will typically contain the name of the domain from which the cookie has come, the “lifetime” of the cookie, and a value (usually a unique number). On their own, cookies do not personally identify you; they recognize your browser. Unless you choose to identify yourself to AHF, either by making a donation or signing up for our email list, you remain anonymous to AHF.

Cookies that are used as part of the Services (in the proxy) may include cookies of a third party website that is being co-browsed, for example, in order to deliver the website as intended by the third party website operator. The cookie practices of such websites are governed by their own respective privacy statements. AHF encourages you to review the privacy statements of other websites to understand their information practices.

Using your browser, you may disable the use of cookies, delete cookies, or individually reject cookies at any time. You may also disable JavaScript at any time. However, some features of our website may not function properly unless cookies and JavaScript are enabled, and some areas of our website may not function at all. To learn more about how to manage cookies and how they work, visit allaboutcookies.org.

Web Beacons. AHF, or third parties with whom we contract, may use web beacons alone or in conjunction with cookies to compile information about Customers and website visitors’ use of the AHF Website and interaction with emails from AHF. Web beacons are transparent pixel images that are used in collecting information about website usage, e-mail response and tracking. For example, AHF may place web beacons in marketing emails that notify AHF when you click on a link in the email that directs you to the AHF Website. AHF uses web beacons to operate and improve the AHF Website and email communications.

IP Addresses and URLs. Like many other websites, AHF uses Google Analytics, which collects information about our website visitors’ utilization and navigation of the AHF Website and reports Website trends, without identifying individual visitors. You can learn about Google’s practices here, and opt out of them by downloading the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, available here. This information helps us to design the AHF Website to better suit our site visitors’ needs. We may also use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer the AHF Website, analyze trends, track number of Visitors, and gather broad demographic information that assists us in identifying visitor preferences. For example, AHF uses IP addresses to monitor how often certain parts of the AHF Website are used so that we can improve them.

AHF may collect aggregated data regarding use of the AHF Website, including, without limitation, number of Site Visitors, frequency and patterns of use, tag usage, feedback request trends, etc. (“Aggregated Data”). AHF uses Aggregated Data as a statistical measure and not in a manner that would identify you personally. AHF may make use of, or make such Aggregated Data available to, third parties, in order to help us make improvements to the Website.

Social Media Features. The AHF Website may use social media features, such as the Facebook ‘like’ button (facebook.com), Instagram (instagram.com), and Twitter (twitter.com) (“Social Media Features”). These features may collect your IP address and which page you are visiting on the AHF Website, and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly. You may be given the option by such Social Media Features to post information about your activities on the AHF Website to your profile page that is provided by a third party Social Media network in order to share with others within your network. Social Media Features are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on the AHF Website. Your interactions with these features are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing the relevant Social Media Features.

How we use information

  • To acknowledge donors on our website, social media channels, or in printed materials.
  • To share with contracted service providers, such as payment processors, to enable them to provide services on our behalf.

AHF does not share, sell rent, or trade any Personal Information with third parties for promotional purposes. AHF retains the information we receive for as long as needed to provide the services and to comply with our legal obligations or to promote our mission.

Security of information

In order to protect the information that we receive from you through our website, we have implemented various security measures, including the use of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to protect your information from unauthorized access. We protect the security of credit card transactions using a number of measures such as encryption, access controls, network firewalls, and physical security. These measures make it extremely difficult for anyone to intercept the credit card information you send to us. When we work with other companies to process credit card transactions, those companies also use encryption and other appropriate security measures.  Please keep in mind, however, that whenever you give out personal information online there is a risk that third parties may intercept and use that information. While AHF strives to protect your personal information and privacy, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you disclose online. Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk.
